Cove, TX

Cove occupies the west side of Old River Lake in northwestern Chambers County, a short hop from the Trinity River channel and Interstate 10. Exit 803 puts the city on the road network linking the lake communities with Mont Belvieu and the wider upper Gulf Coast. The 2020 census counted 525 residents. Water, highways, and the surrounding petrochemical corridor all sit close to the city's residential streets, giving Cove an in-between setting shaped by both river country and industry.

The community began around a post office in 1894 and grew around the Icet family's sawmill. By 1920 about 150 people lived here; after World War II, chemical plants and other industry changed the broader area. Cove incorporated in 1973, after a dispute over Beach City's attempt to annex the settlement. Today students attend Barbers Hill ISD, whose campuses serve Cove, Mont Belvieu, Old River-Winfree, and Beach City; residents are also zoned to Lee College. Cove keeps its own small-city identity beside Old River Lake, with the highway and the water both close at hand.
