Craig Beach, OH

Craig Beach sits right along the shores of Lake Milton in Mahoning County, and life here revolves entirely around the water. The village got its start after Youngstown dammed the Mahoning River to create a reservoir in the 1910s. Seeing an opportunity, a local named Ward Craig opened a boat landing and snack stand for visitors. That humble spot quickly grew into the popular Craig Beach Amusement Park, drawing summer crowds with roller coasters, dance halls, and lakeside cottages before the town officially incorporated in 1931.

Back in its heyday, big bands packed the lakeside ballroom, and a teenage Dean Martin even took the stage here before the park closed in the late 1960s. Today, Craig Beach has traded the carnival rides for a laid-back, small-town lake vibe centered on Lake Milton State Park, sandy swimming spots, and weekend boating. Families are part of the Jackson-Milton school district, and residents enjoy a friendly mix of year-round homes and cozy cottages where pontoon rides and quiet water views are simply part of everyday life.
