Craigsville, VA

Craigsville began as a 1700s farming settlement founded by William and Jeanette Craig, with the community truly taking off when the railroad arrived in 1853. Tracks laid across the Craig property turned the area into an active rail stop, establishing the layout of the streets that followed. That historic train corridor still anchors the town today, giving it a classic small-town structure that is easy to navigate.

A lot of that vintage character remains visible around town, like the 1917 Craigsville School building that was later converted into residential apartments. In the decades following the closure of its mid-century mills, Craigsville evolved into a quiet, peaceful mountain community offering dependable local services and easy access to the surrounding Augusta County countryside.
