About Cresbard
Cresbard is an incorporated town in Faulk County, South Dakota, with 96 residents and 81 housing units in the 2020 Census. The settlement began about three miles northwest of its present site and took its name from John A. Cressey and George A. Baird. Baird petitioned for a post office in 1883, placing it in Cressey's home. A railroad grade crossed the region in 1892, though tracks were never laid; Minneapolis & St. Louis Railroad surveyors and the Dakota Town Lot Company redirected development to the current site in 1906. A Senate tribute marking Cresbard's centennial noted local businesses, a museum, and a community center. Cresbard's present map follows postal, railroad-planning, and civic history.
