About Crescent

Crescent is an unincorporated community in Klamath County, Oregon, with 412 people at the 2020 census. It sits along U.S. Route 97 about 47 miles south-southwest of Bend, at roughly 4,452 feet in elevation, and its post office uses ZIP code 97733. The community was first known as Odell when its post office opened in 1901; the name changed to Crescent in 1907, after Crescent Lake about 15 miles west. That gives the place a distinctly Cascade-oriented map: highway, lake country, and the routes through northern Klamath County all meet in the same local story.

A Klamath County community assessment lists two parks and rodeo grounds in Crescent, adding a few definite gathering places to the small highway community. Crescent falls within the Klamath County School District and the service territory of Central Oregon Community College, so the local map reaches from a tiny post-office community to county schools and a regional college district. The local scoop is a high-elevation U.S. 97 stop whose name points west to Crescent Lake and whose parks and rodeo grounds give the community a few recognizable places to gather.
