Cressey, CA

Cressey is a Merced County census-designated place just east of the Santa Fe railroad crossing of the Merced River, north-northwest of Atwater. Ballico lies across the river, while Winton and Livingston sit along the nearby agricultural roads. The 2020 census counted 366 residents. Cressey's name began as Cressy on an 1882 post office, which closed and reopened before changing to Cressey in 1912. The railroad named the place for local landowner Calvin J. Cressey.

The community remains tied to the valley's irrigation and farm landscape. Individual wells supply domestic water, septic systems handle wastewater, and Merced County Fire Department Station 94 serves the area. There is no local sanitary sewer system, so the small settlement's infrastructure follows rural patterns even as the railroad and river place it inside a larger transportation map. Cressey is a river-crossing neighborhood with a station-era name, orchards and fields around it, and Atwater, Livingston, and Merced County services close by for daily local service needs.
