Crest Hill, IL

Crest Hill grew out of a collection of distinct neighborhoods just north of Joliet, giving the town deep roots and a unique backstory. One of its most notable ties dates back to 1942, when local developer Dominic Romano renamed his subdivision after Lidice, a Czechoslovakian village destroyed during World War II. The connection stuck, drawing international dignitaries to the monument dedication and creating an annual memorial tradition on Hosmer Lane that continues today. When several adjoining subdivisions banded together to incorporate as Crest Hill in 1960, that shared history gave the new city an instant sense of community.

Because of how it developed, Crest Hill features a spread-out layout of distinct residential pockets bordered by forest preserves and convenient commercial strips. Daily errands, shopping, and dining mostly cluster along Plainfield Road (Route 30) and Weber Road, while Broadway follows historic Route 66 south into Joliet. Commuters also benefit from quick access to Interstates 55 and 80, putting surrounding job centers and suburban amenities within an easy drive. Between the main corridors, quiet subdivisions offer comfortable single-family homes and peaceful, tree-lined streets.

Much of the town's local activity takes place around the municipal campus on City Center Boulevard. This central hub brings together City Hall, the police department, and the White Oak Public Library, alongside a landscaped Veterans Memorial Garden that hosts seasonal family events. For outdoor recreation, residents turn to the Lockport Township Park District, which operates neighborhood parks as well as the nearby Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club and walking trails. Having the library, city offices, and park spaces in close proximity makes everyday errands and outings simple and convenient.
