Crimora, VA

Crimora is an Augusta County CDP with a strong industrial story against the Shenandoah mountains. The Crimora manganese mine opened in 1867 and ran nearly continuously for decades; Virginia Energy calls it the state’s largest-producing manganese mine, and the ore helped feed steelmaking. From the community, Turk Mountain is the visual landmark. Its trail in Shenandoah National Park reaches a 2,981-foot summit, while the ridge and overlook look back toward Crimora and the valley.
