Crooked Creek, GA

Crooked Creek is a Putnam County census-designated place on the western bank of the Oconee River, in Georgia's Piedmont. It is a river-edge community with homes and roads spread between the water and the county's wooded and farmed interior. The Oconee makes the eastern boundary immediate, while Eatonton, founded as the county seat in 1808, remains the area's historic civic center.

The wider county's history reaches back to its creation from Baldwin County in 1807, after land cessions by the Creek. Crooked Creek also has a small industrial footnote in the nearby Beall's Mill site on Oconee Springs Road. Caroline Davis Beall completed the grist mill on Crooked Creek in 1862 after her husband's death, and it served local residents and the Confederate Army before operating into the early 1900s. Today the place is defined by its river edge, rural roads, and connection to the rest of Putnam County. Crooked Creek is a named piece of the Oconee landscape, with the creek and river doing most of the work of locating it.
