Crosby, ND

Crosby is the Divide County seat in northwestern North Dakota, founded in 1904 at the end of a Great Northern Railway branch from Berthold. The railroad gave the new city a reason to exist, while county government turned it into a service center for the surrounding prairie. The Divide County Courthouse, with its stained glass and mosaic floors, remains one of Crosby's most recognizable buildings. The city sits in a wide-open borderland where county roads, farms, energy work, and long distances set the daily pace.

Crosby's Pioneer Village preserves original structures and machinery from Divide County, and Writing Rock State Historic Site adds carved granite boulders with thunderbird figures to the regional map. The city pool and splash pad handle summer, the nine-hole country club carries into winter with cross-country skiing, and the Meadowlarks Arts Council and Dakota Theater keep concerts, plays, movies, and exhibits in the calendar. Crosby is a county-seat town with a courthouse, a living history village, and enough local arts and recreation to give the prairie a full weekend circuit.
