About Crouch

Crouch is a Boise County city in Garden Valley, with 154 residents in the 2020 census. The place took shape around the Middle and South Forks of the Payette River: miner Billy Crouch homesteaded near their confluence, and a post office established in 1934 gave the settlement its name and role as Garden Valley's commercial district. Crouch incorporated in 1951, and its civic identity still centers on the rustic mountain town that grew from that history.

The city's current map reaches well beyond city hall. Crouch Community Hall, water and public-works services, fire protection, ambulance service, the Garden Valley School District, public library, historical museum, arts center, and parks district all serve the valley. These services extend beyond the city boundary. The Wildlife Canyon Scenic Byway follows the South Fork of the Payette through a 33-mile route where the river canyon and wildlife shape travel. Crouch is small, yet it works as a service and gathering point for a much larger mountain valley.
