About Crystal Springs

Crystal Springs is a Pasco County census-designated place named for the water at its center. The spring group sits in southeastern Pasco, about three miles south of Zephyrhills, and the community lies in the rail-and-road country between Dade City and Plant City. It is a census-designated community rather than an incorporated municipality, so the spring, surrounding homes, and county roads do more of the orienting than a municipal main street.

The older story starts with land, water, and a planned community. The Common Good Society of Crystal Springs held rights to the spring until 1926, when those rights were given to the Co-operative Homestead Company. A dam later changed the spring run, and the water remained the defining local feature. That water connection is the reason the place has a name people can picture. For bearings, keep Zephyrhills close, Dade City farther north, and the spring itself at the center. Crystal Springs is a named community whose history follows the spring from a shared water right to the landmark around which settlement took shape.
