About Cumberland

Cumberland is a city and the county seat of Allegany County, Maryland, situated along the Potomac River in Western Maryland. Historically known as the Queen City when it was the state's second-largest municipality, the community of approximately 18,804 served as a vital early transportation hub at the western terminus of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and the start of the National Road. Public education is administered by Allegany County Public Schools.
