Dale, WI

Dale is an Outagamie County town officially created in 1853, with two unincorporated centers inside it: Dale and Medina. The Dale Historical Society remembers the early township as Poker Flats, while Medina began as Young's Corner. That split personality still matters; a Dale mailing address can come through several surrounding post offices, but residents vote at the Dale Municipal Building. This is a town measured more by roads, wetlands, and scattered settlement than by one compact downtown.

Water is the surprising number on Dale's map: wetlands cover roughly 42 percent of the town, or about 8,250 acres. The rest mixes farm fields, homes, commercial and light-manufacturing sites, and an industrial park. The Canadian National Railroad and Wiouwash recreation trail cut across the town, giving the place both a freight line and a converted rail route for recreation. Dale sits between Outagamie, Winnebago, and Waupaca county lines, close enough to Hortonville and Appleton for those names to show up in everyday directions. The local scoop is a big rural town with two named centers and far more wet ground than a casual drive suggests.
