About Danielsville

Danielsville is Madison County’s seat, named for General Allen Daniel and designated as the county seat in 1812. The city incorporated in 1908, but the courthouse story is older: the ornate Madison County Courthouse was built in 1901, hosted county offices for 95 years, and still faces the newer government complex on Albany Avenue. Crawford W. Long, associated with the early use of ether in surgery, was born here, and his childhood home remains a National Register site. U.S. 29 runs through the city, with Athens and Royston about 15 miles away in opposite directions. Danielsville is northeast Georgia with a courthouse square, a doctor’s birthplace, and county business in plain view.
