Dante, VA

Set deep in the mountains of southwestern Virginia along the Russell and Dickenson county line, Dante is a quiet community with deep Appalachian roots. Originally developed as a company town for the Clinchfield Coal Corporation in the early 1900s, the settlement grew up along the winding curves of Lick Creek, with classic worker cottages in the hollows and larger manager homes on the hills above. Decades after the peak mining years, the area retains its historic layout and relaxed small-town feel.

Today, Dante offers a peaceful setting for people who appreciate mountain scenery and a slower pace. The historic downtown still holds its original brick buildings and railroad depot, alongside a dedicated museum and memorial honoring the generations of miners who lived here. Residents enjoy a quiet, tucked-away neighborhood with quick drives into neighboring St. Paul for everyday shopping, local schools, and outdoor recreation along the Clinch River.
