Darbydale, OH

Darbydale is a Franklin County census-designated place in Pleasant Township, about 14 miles southwest of downtown Columbus. It sits on the north side of Big Darby Creek, a stream that eventually joins the Scioto River, so the landscape shifts quickly from Columbus edge to creek bottoms, farms, and wooded banks. Darbydale was once an incorporated village, but that status ended in 1985. The old village name remains attached to a small community in one of central Ohio’s most recognizable watersheds.

Big Darby Creek is the local through-line. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service describes the Big and Little Darby system as part of Ohio’s corn belt and within easy reach of Columbus, while nearby Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park protects large stretches of the creek country. Pleasant Township planning still treats the Darby as the feature that shaped settlement and the township’s rural character.
