Darnestown is a Montgomery County census-designated place northwest of Rockville and Gaithersburg, near the Potomac River. Its history is tied to westward settlement along the Potomac and routes toward the Monocacy River, when farms and crossroads communities shaped this part of Maryland. Today Darnestown is mostly residential, with large lots, wooded roads, and access to parks and river recreation.
