Dassel, MN

Located about an hour west of the Twin Cities along Highway 12, Dassel is a quiet Meeker County town of around 1,500 residents with deep farming roots. Sitting right at the crossroads of Highways 12 and 15, it makes an easy home base for commuters heading toward Hutchinson or Litchfield who want a slower pace of daily life. The Dassel History Center operates out of a restored brick building that once processed medicinal ergot fungus during World War II, preserving town archives, seed-corn history, and vintage farm records. Just down the road stands the 1931 White Eagle gas station, known to locals as the Mushroom Building for its distinctive rounded roof.
