About Dauphin Island

Dauphin Island is an island town in Mobile County, Alabama, situated on a scenic barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico. Incorporated in 1988 and forming part of the Mobile metropolitan area, the historic island was first visited by French explorer Pierre Le Moyne in 1699. Today it is a popular coastal community home to the historic Fort Gaines, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, and the Alabama Aquarium. Local education is provided by the Mobile County Public School System.
