About Dauphin

Dauphin is a Susquehanna-side borough at the mouth of Stony Creek, where the river's floodplain narrows into a valley between Peters Mountain and the other ridges of the Appalachian edge. Local history remembers a colonial fort here, called Fort Lyon or Fort McKee, and the borough's position makes the old defensive logic easy to picture: river crossing below, narrow valley and mountain routes above. Dauphin sits in the Harrisburg metro, but it feels more like a river gateway than a suburb on a map. The borough's school-age map runs through Central Dauphin, while the local geography is all Susquehanna, Stony Creek, and long ridgelines.
