De Valls Bluff, AR

DeValls Bluff is a small, quiet community of around 500 people along the banks of the White River in eastern Arkansas. Located on U.S. Highway 70 roughly 40 miles east of Little Rock, the town originally grew as an important steamboat landing and rail depot, serving as a vital supply link when shallow waters kept boats from reaching the capital. You can still spot traces of that past throughout the area, including Civil War earthworks at Fort Lincoln that overlook the historic river crossing.

Today, daily life moves at an easy pace shaped by the surrounding Grand Prairie. The area draws plenty of outdoor enthusiasts for duck hunting, boating, and freshwater fishing, while local staples like Craig’s Bar-B-Q bring in travelers from all over the region. DeValls Bluff serves as one of Prairie County’s two county seats alongside Des Arc, and local students attend classes in the neighboring Hazen School District. It offers a laid-back, small-town atmosphere with convenient highway access to larger job centers.
