Decaturville, TN

Decaturville is the county seat of Decatur County, positioned about five miles from the Tennessee River and named for Commodore Stephen Decatur Jr. The town’s civic activity centers on Court Square, where the courthouse faces a space used for community events and county gatherings. Main Street and the square give Decaturville a recognizable courthouse-town layout, with local government, shops, churches, and daily errands organized around the county-seat core.

The Decatur County Library adds another layer to that center. Built on Court Square in 1993, it includes a community room, a Tennessee and genealogy room, and local newspapers and records that reach back through much of the county’s modern history. The courthouse and library make the square useful on ordinary days as well as during county events. Nearby schools, churches, and river-country roads connect the town to surrounding communities.
