Declo, ID

Declo is a Cassia County city in southern Idaho, with 338 residents in the 2020 census and a place in the Burley micropolitan area. The community was first called Marshfield, then changed its name to Declo in 1916 when the post office required a shorter name. It sits east of Burley and south of the Snake River in the Snake River Plain, with irrigated farm fields, open roads, and the dry mountain horizon giving the city its shape.

Declo is part of Cassia County School District, keeping the city connected to surrounding farming communities through local classrooms and activities. Irrigation keeps the agricultural pattern visible from the city streets. The name change marked a shift from an older settlement label to the Idaho place now on the map, but the daily pattern remains agricultural: homes, school grounds, roads, and fields gathered around a small center.
