About Deerfield
Deerfield is an Augusta County CDP with 110 people at the 2020 census, spread through the Deerfield Valley. The setting is rural in the literal sense: farms, hunting areas, old plantation houses, and mountain views fill the map, while the local list of everyday institutions includes a post office, fire department, rescue squad, dump, and the Deerfield mall, the town's main store.
The valley's schoolhouse is the clearest historic marker. Built in 1937 as a rural consolidated school, Deerfield School was listed on the National Register in 1986 and preserves a plain wooden building tied to Augusta County's school history. Children from the area attend Churchville Elementary, Buffalo Gap Middle, and Buffalo Gap High, so the community's school connections run beyond the CDP. Deerfield is a valley settlement held together by a handful of services, with a historic schoolhouse and mountain country doing much of the visual work. That mix keeps the settlement's practical needs visible on a very small map.
