Deering, AK

Deering is a remote coastal city in the Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska, situated on a sandy spit of the Seward Peninsula. The community lies at the mouth of the Inmachuk River where it flows into Kotzebue Sound, about ninety-two kilometers southwest of Kotzebue. Established in 1901 as a gold mining supply station named Yutica, the town is home to a primarily Iñupiat population of under two hundred residents. The Northwest Arctic Borough School District operates the Deering School, serving local children.
