Defiance, PA

Defiance is a small, quiet community tucked along Six Mile Run in northeastern Bedford County. Like many of the settlements across the Broad Top region, it grew during the late nineteenth-century coal boom. Local lore says the village earned its name when an early storekeeper opened up shop in direct defiance of the company store. The mines are long gone, but that independent streak and quiet mountain backdrop remain central to the town.

Today, life in Defiance is peaceful and low-key. Neighbors stay connected through familiar community spots like the Six Mile Run United Methodist Church, while local children attend the Tussey Mountain School District down the valley.
