Denison, TX

Denison sits just south of the Red River and Lake Texoma, with neighboring Sherman right down the road. At the heart of the community is a charming downtown along Main Street, filled with brick storefronts, local eateries, antique shops, and breweries. Recent streetscape updates have made the historic core easy to walk and explore, while big-box shopping, grocery stores, and quick highway commutes are located right along US 75 on the west side of town.

The town has a rich heritage that residents still celebrate today. Dwight D. Eisenhower was born here in 1890, and his modest birthplace home is preserved as a state historic site with guided tours and exhibits. Denison also played a surprising role in the global wine world thanks to 19th-century horticulturist T.V. Munson, who helped save French vineyards from blight using hardy Texas grape rootstocks. Grayson College keeps that legacy alive on its Denison campus, offering popular degree programs in viticulture, winemaking, and distilling.

For weekend downtime, locals have plenty of options between downtown events and the lake. Summer Friday nights bring crowds together for free Music on Main concerts, while downtown parks host farmers markets and seasonal festivals throughout the year. Just a short drive northwest, Eisenhower State Park sits right on Lake Texoma, offering hiking trails along limestone bluffs, boat ramps, camping, and some of the best striper fishing in Texas.
