Dexter is a small, quiet community of around 200 people located along Grouse Creek in the rolling Flint Hills of southern Kansas. Founded in 1875, the town holds a unique spot in American history. In 1903, drillers searching for natural gas accidentally discovered one of the world’s first major sources of helium, a breakthrough that helped launch the nation's helium industry and is still commemorated at the local Helium Memorial Park.

Today, everyday life centers on a relaxed rural rhythm and strong community ties. The biggest event on the local calendar is the annual Dexter Barbecue and Fun Run every July, which brings residents and visitors downtown for pit barbecue, music, and family activities. With local schools serving area families and open prairie in every direction, Dexter offers peaceful country living.
