Dilley, OR

Dilley sits on Oregon Route 47 between Forest Grove and Gaston, a small Washington County community with a Tualatin River story older than its railroad name. Horace Parsons settled here in 1849 and, with A.T. Smith, built a gristmill at a river crossing known as Jason Lee Ford. The mill began making flour in 1850, powered by an undershot water wheel. Dilley was platted in 1874 after rail service reached the area, and a station followed in 1895, giving the community a place on the line between the Tualatin Valley's farms and larger markets.

Today's Dilley map still follows that old arrangement. Anderson Road leads toward the mill site, Oregon 47 carries traffic past the community, and the surrounding valley remains a mix of farms and rural properties. Dilley is in Forest Grove School District, while Pacific University and Forest Grove supply the nearest larger civic and educational center. The old mill ruins are the local clue: a flour mill on the Tualatin, a railroad stop, and a highway community all occupy the same stretch of valley.
