Dime Box, TX

Located out in rural Lee County, Dime Box is a tiny Central Texas community of around 200 residents with one of the most distinctive names in the state. It earned its title in the late 1800s when locals left outgoing mail in a wooden box with a ten-cent fee for anyone heading into nearby Giddings. The town split in 1913 after the railroad came through three miles south, which is how the area ended up with both Old Dime Box on Highway 21 and "new" Dime Box by the tracks. Today, the community gathers around Dime Box School, where the Longhorns play and neighbors still know everyone in town.
