Distant, PA

Distant is a census-designated place in Mahoning Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, near New Bethlehem at the meeting of State Routes 28 and 66. The name sounds remote, yet the community's history is a sequence of postal and road connections. Oakland's post office opened in 1841 and continued until 1907; the Distant post office opened in 1917, giving the same small settlement two names across successive eras. Oakland appears in the 1876 county atlas, and the older town history links it to the former place called Texas.

Distant remains an unincorporated place with a post office and ZIP code, set in Mahoning Township south-southwest of New Bethlehem.
