Dixon, KY

Dixon is the Webster County seat at the junction of U.S. 41A and Kentucky 132, a home-rule city with a 2020 population of 933. William Jenkins opened a stagecoach inn in 1794 on the old trail between Nashville and St. Louis, five miles north of the present city. Dixon was established when Webster County formed in 1860, named for Archibald Dixon, and incorporated in 1861. The courthouse and post office gave the young county seat its first civic shape.

Downtown Dixon still carries historic homes and reminders of Civil War skirmishes, while the courthouse, city offices, and Webster County schools serve the surrounding rural county. Dixon Elementary serves younger students, and the road junction moves traffic toward Providence, Madisonville, and the Ohio River region. Local streets connect court business, shops, churches, schools, and homes in a compact center. Dixon's story is built around movement: an Indian trail became a stage route, the stage route became a county-seat road network, and the network still organizes the city.
