About Dixon
Dixon is a small village in Dixon County, where the prairie meets the region's long railroad history. The townsite was platted in 1890 as rail construction reached the county, and the Nebraska State Historical Society's account of the Covington, Columbus and Black Hills Railroad shows why local communities voted bonds for a line toward the Black Hills. A historic railroad survey records Dixon's grain elevator, flour mill, and creamery; freight trains and elevators still mark the agricultural setting. With Sioux City nearby, Dixon remains a compact northeastern Nebraska community shaped by rail, grain, and county roads.
