Dolgeville, NY

Dolgeville is a Herkimer-and-Fulton County village named for industrialist Alfred Dolge, whose factory complex shaped the place's identity. The settlement began with mills in the 1790s, then gained a bigger industrial chapter when Dolge built piano materials and other products, along with a railroad spur and a long list of civic facilities. The village's other signature is horticultural: Lyndon Lyon developed hundreds of African violet varieties, and the annual Violet Festival keeps that story in bloom. Dolgeville is Mohawk Valley history with two very different fingerprints—factory power and greenhouse color—plus East Canada Creek running along the village.
