Dorseyville, PA

Dorseyville is an unincorporated community in Indiana Township, about 13 miles north of Pittsburgh. Farmers once called it Crowtown before the Dorsey family name took over, and the place still sits at the meeting point of township roads, school routes, and Pittsburgh’s northern suburban edge. There is no separate borough government here; Indiana Township handles the municipal work, with its town hall and community center on Saxonburg Boulevard in Dorseyville. That arrangement gives the place a practical, crossroads feel: township services and neighborhood businesses share the same address area.

COTRAIC, the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center, has been headquartered on 23 acres in Dorseyville since the 1970s. It grew from Native families organizing in Pittsburgh and now runs cultural, employment, early-childhood, senior, and food-support programs for Native and non-Native neighbors. Hartwood Elementary and the wider Indiana Township school system add the school-centered side, while fire halls, polling places, and local shops fill out the routine. Pittsburgh is close enough to shape commuting and services, but Dorseyville’s own map is more granular: Saxonburg Boulevard, township government, a Native community center, schools, and the old farm roads that gave the place its first name.
