Douglas, AL

Douglas is a Marshall County town concentrated around State Routes 75 and 168 on the southwest end of Sand Mountain. Guntersville Lake lies to the north, while the Locust Fork watershed runs to the southwest, so the town’s map is all ridge, roads, and nearby water. Douglas was first settled in the mid-19th century, and its first school opened in 1898, followed by Douglas Academy in 1909.

The town incorporated in 1978, but the school story still gives Douglas its clearest local thread. Students now fall within the Marshall County school system, while Albertville, Boaz, and Snead sit close enough to handle the larger errands. The town’s main routes meet where school, church, stores, and neighborhood streets come together, giving the ridge community a clear center even without a large commercial strip. Douglas is a small Alabama place with a practical crossroads location: Sand Mountain underfoot, lake country nearby, and State Routes 75 and 168 doing the connecting. The ridge remains the town’s constant.
