Dubach, LA

Dubach sits in rolling North Louisiana in Lincoln Parish, a town whose present identity still carries the lumber boom that followed the Arkansas Southern Railway. The railroad arrived in 1898; Fred B. Dubach came the next year, started Dubach Lumber Company, and gave the town the name that became official when it was chartered in 1901. Logging, milling, and agriculture shaped the early economy, while dairy cattle, peaches, watermelons, and poultry remain part of the surrounding farm story.

Dubach's built heritage is unusually tied to dogtrot houses, the Louisiana form with enclosed rooms joined by a breezeway that pulls air through the house. The 1883 Colvin House was moved into the town center to serve as a visitor center, and the 1849 Autrey House Museum is described as the oldest building in Lincoln Parish. The town's GEM Theater, reopened in 2026 after 63 years closed, adds a fresh chapter to that preservation-minded identity.
