Dudley, NC

South of Goldsboro, Dudley is a Wayne County crossroads with two different names in its past. The earlier Dudley was founded by Labon Lewis and named for his brother; the present community grew around a Wilmington and Weldon Railroad camp in the late 1830s and later carried Governor Edward B. Dudley's name. US 117 is the everyday north-south link, while Georgia-Pacific's lumber and plywood facilities give the area a current industrial address. Children attend Wayne County schools, and nearby Wayne Community College supplies training across the county. Dudley is unincorporated, but Goldsboro's services, jobs, and college campus are close enough to be part of the local map.
