About Duffield

Duffield is a town in Scott County, Virginia, United States. The 2020 census counted 73 residents. Duffield is part of the Kingsport-Bristol-Bristol, TN-VA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City-Kingsport-Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the "Tri-Cities" region. The town is situated at the southern edge of the Jefferson National Forest. Located between Duffield and Pattonsville, on U.S. Route 421, is the gravesite of Ross Carter, a paratrooper from World War II, who wrote Those Devils in Baggy Pants, a story about the 82nd Airborne during World War II. There are many Civil War -era homes in the Duffield area. That mix gives Duffield a clear local shape within Virginia, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present.
