About Dukedom
Dukedom is a census-designated place in Weakley County, Tennessee, at a community that extends across the Kentucky line into Graves County. Local histories describe it as a post village established by 1833, positioned on the stage route between Dresden and the Mississippi River port at Mills Point. By the late nineteenth century, Dukedom had blacksmiths, a school, three stores, churches, and a post office. The community’s unusual two-state layout is practical as well as geographic: a local brochure records highways, businesses, and addresses crossing the state line. The same brochure lists a bank, grocery stores, and service stations among its twentieth-century businesses.
Knob Creek Church of Christ, founded in 1834 near the line, is the landmark that carries Dukedom’s religious history. Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church, organized in 1856, still lists Dukedom as its community and describes recurring church programs and a June homecoming. Dukedom’s map remains tied to the line itself, where roads, stores, congregations, and postal service have served residents on both sides.
