Duncannon, PA

Duncannon is a Perry County borough where the Susquehanna River, the Appalachian Trail, and a name from Duncan's Island all meet. The settlement was laid out as Petersburg in 1792, then took its present name from the island across the river. The Appalachian Trail passes through town, and Duncannon has long been one of those trail stops hikers know by the streets rather than a highway sign. The borough also made Lightning Guider sleds from 1904 to 1988, a wonderfully specific piece of local manufacturing history.
