Although Dunwoody officially became a city in 2008, its roots go back well over a century. The community originally took shape in the late 1800s around a small railroad stop near Mount Vernon and Chamblee Dunwoody roads, which drew local shops, churches, and family homes to the crossroads. A slice of that peaceful past is preserved at the Donaldson-Bannister Farm, a historic 1870s homestead set on five park-like acres. Today, residents bring picnic blankets, walk the grounds, and join in on seasonal festivals on the open lawn. That blend of history and established suburban comfort gives the town a grounded, welcoming character from the moment you arrive.

Daily errands and weekend outings center around a few distinct pockets of town. The traditional heart of the community is Dunwoody Village, known for its distinctive colonial styling, local boutiques, casual restaurants, and a cozy central courtyard that hosts neighborhood gatherings. Right down the street, you will find the local library branch and the Spruill Center for the Arts. Further south along Interstate 285, the scene shifts to Perimeter Center. Anchored by Perimeter Mall and major corporate campuses, this lively commercial district provides extensive shopping and dining, giving residents big-city convenience right next door to quiet, tree-lined subdivisions.

Commuting is straightforward thanks to the Dunwoody MARTA station, situated on the Red Line right in the Perimeter district. From here, you can skip the highway traffic and take a direct train ride into Buckhead, Midtown, downtown Atlanta, or straight to Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Perimeter Center is also evolving into an energetic district of its own. Modern developments like High Street and Campus 244 have added apartments, chef-driven restaurants, and walkable green plazas where people gather for drinks and live music. Expanding paved multi-use paths along Ashford Dunwoody Road make it increasingly easy to stroll or bike between dinner, shopping, and nearby offices.

For outdoor recreation, Brook Run Park is the crown jewel of the local park system. Covering over 100 acres, it features a two-mile paved loop trail, a huge playground, a skate park, a popular dog park, and community garden plots. Throughout the warmer months, neighbors fill the Great Lawn and amphitheater with lawn chairs and picnic baskets for the Groovin' on the Green concert series and community food truck nights. Paved trails also link Brook Run directly to nearby Pernoshal and Georgetown parks, giving runners and cyclists plenty of interconnected green space to explore. Whether you are catching an outdoor show at Brook Run or relaxing on a patio in the Village, finding a spot to connect with neighbors is effortless.
