Duquesne, MO

Duquesne is a Jasper County city of 2,159 residents in the 2020 census, inside the Joplin metropolitan area and just east of Joplin’s larger street grid. The community sits in the southwest Missouri lead-and-zinc district, where Joplin’s rail and mining boom shaped the surrounding towns. Its school routes run through Joplin Schools: Soaring Heights Elementary serves much of Duquesne, with McKinley Elementary used in sections west of Duquesne Road and north of Seventh Street; middle and high school students continue to Joplin’s campuses.

Duquesne Memorial Park is the clearest local gathering place. The city renamed its park in 2022, and the site now includes a splash pad open during the summer season, with a park committee working on improvements. City Hall and the city’s police, streets, and sewer departments fill in the practical map. The local scoop today is a Joplin-edge city whose everyday life is split between a small municipal park, Joplin’s schools, and the old Tri-State mining corridor.
