About Durham

Durham is a census-designated place in Butte County, south of Chico. It was built on the site of a former Maidu settlement known as Eskini, and agriculture still defines much of the surrounding landscape. Almonds and walnuts are major local products, and most of the community is served by Durham Unified School District. Durham feels rural, school-centered, and quietly prosperous in a valley-farming way, with Chico nearby but orchards and county roads setting the everyday tone.
