Dyer, AR

Dyer is a Crawford County city that began as a wagon stop, then became a railroad town. In the 1840s Joel Dyer offered water and a rest stop to westbound travelers on the old Military Road; his farm became a stagecoach stop in 1858. The Little Rock and Fort Smith Railroad reached the area in 1876, and the family helped provide material for a depot first called Dyer Station. George Dyer and John Moss platted the town in 1884, giving away lots to attract settlers. U.S. 64 still follows the old east-west corridor through Dyer.
