About Eagle Grove

Eagle Grove is Wright County's largest city, set near the Boone River in north-central Iowa. The 2020 census counted 3,601 residents. The town was platted in 1881 and took its name from eagle nests seen in an oak grove above the riverbank. It is one of those Iowa places where a small city carries a county-sized role without being the county seat. When the fair arrives, the city becomes the place where the county's farm roads all seem to lead. Greenwood Park and the Wright County District Junior Fair give Eagle Grove its biggest annual burst, with the fairgrounds bringing the surrounding farm country into town each summer.

Original Eagle Grove Public Library

The Eagle Grove Community School District serves the city and rural communities across three counties, so the school map reaches well beyond the city limits. Eagle Grove's local scoop is a Boone River town with a county fair, a wide school district, and an eagle-nest name that still feels tied to the landscape.
