Eagleville CDP (Centre County), PA

Eagleville is the village name for a small Centre County place that also appears as Blanchard on postal and railroad maps. It sits in Liberty Township, where Beech Creek bounds the east, Marsh Creek runs through the township, and Bald Eagle Creek follows the southern part. The village was laid out in 1832 by Solomon Strong and Dr. Roberts, and Michael Brickley built the first house. That combination of watercourses and an early crossroads layout gives Eagleville a central-Pennsylvania feel.

Liberty Township itself was formed in 1845, and Eagleville's early community life was tied to a Disciples meetinghouse organized by Elder Nathan J. Mitchell in 1832. The Blanchard name remained useful as a post-office and station name, so both names belong on the same mental map. Today the place is part of the rural township landscape rather than a separate incorporated borough; the local scoop is that Eagleville is the village name, Blanchard the address and transport name, and Liberty Township the larger frame.
