East Amana, IA

East Amana is the quietest of the seven historic Amana Colonies in eastern Iowa's Iowa River valley. Settled in 1855, the village began as part of a communal farming and craft community where neighbors shared kitchens, workshops, and agricultural land. The communal system ended in the 1930s, but the village has kept its rural character, remaining a peaceful hamlet surrounded by thousands of acres of rolling cropland and timber.

Today, East Amana is a strictly residential community filled with historic sandstone homes, classic timber barns, and quiet country lanes. Because there are no commercial shops or tourist attractions in the village itself, it avoids the weekend crowds seen in neighboring Amana. Everyday services, restaurants, and schools are only a few minutes away in the nearby colonies, while Cedar Rapids and Iowa City provide easy commutes for work and city amenities.
