East Berlin, PA

East Berlin is an Adams County borough at the junction of Pennsylvania 194 and 234, about 13 miles west of York and beside the York County line. The 2020 census counted 1,542 residents. John Frankenberger laid out the town in 1764 on land bought from the Penn family, naming it Berlin after his Prussian hometown; the post office added “East” in 1827. The borough’s downtown and surrounding East Berlin Historic District preserve that crossroads origin, with Swigart’s Mill at the Conewago and Beaver Creek confluence adding a mill-era landmark. Today, the town’s map opens outward through creeks, orchards, farmland, and the Bermudian Springs School District.

The borough park and nearby Lake Meade add familiar gathering and recreation spots, while York remains the larger regional center for work and services.
